Real talk: An exercise in self-compassion

September 30, 2015 by Kelly

Exercise in Self-Compassion | Kelly Maia Nutrition
Begin by breathing deeply, inhale… and exhale… Now close your eyes and imagine yourself in a place where you feel free. Free of judgement, free of negativity, free to just be.

You are peaceful here. For some, it may be by an ocean; for others, this place may be in your bed under the covers. Perhaps it’s not even a place, but a state of mind where everything is white or black, like a blank slate. Or perhaps it’s being embraced by your mother or a significant other. Feel yourself let go, feel your body sink down and feel yourself enter into a state of calm. Keep breathing deeply, inhale… exhale…

Imagine, in this moment, a voice speaking to you. Carried by the wind, being spoken by your partner, or echoing wherever you are. Let it fill you up, let it wash over you. It says…

It’s okay to hurt. It’s okay to feel pain. It’s okay to struggle sometimes. Forgive yourself for the pressure you are under. You’re allowed to cry, did you know? Those tears are proof that you are alive, that you have feelings, that you are human. Do not be ashamed, do not feel embarrassed. You are human and you are allowed to feel sadness, too. Sometimes it’s a struggle, and that’s okay. You are perfect as you are; because there’s no such this as perfect. Accept yourself, love yourself wholly and completely. Happiness and sadness are a part of life; feel free to let them out, without judgement and without fear. It’s okay. It’s okay… It’s all okay…

Sit still, in this moment, and let those words wash over you. The words that speak of self-acceptance and self-compassion and self-love. The words that don’t judge you or make you feel bad. The words that allow you to be exactly who you are in this moment. Hold that feeling; it’s powerful isn’t it?

Love yourself for everything that you are. Understand that it will never be perfect. Allow yourself to feel acceptance. You are human. You are enough.

It’s okay.

Hi, Kelly! I’m from Helene’s webinar (chat room), and thought I’d drop you note here on your blog. I’ve been following your blog (via feedly) for a few days now, and I gain strength, determination, and inspiration from the things you post here. I’m currently going through a ‘phase’ right now that involves a change of lifestyle. Please continue to be an inspiration to many!
